I solemnly swear that I am up to no good

via Daily Prompt: Detonate

Detonate

It was a summer vacation when the first Harry Potter film came out and it was my first English film. It must have cast some spell, that vacation was magical.I told that story to everyone I saw. Every time I talked about the Nine and three-quarters platform, levitation charm, Alohomora, chocolate frogs and Hermione their expressions were priceless. I even had dreams where Prof McConogal came to our doorstep with Hogwarts admission letter, I opened the school cupboard with Alohomora charm, my sister and I fight over a chocolate frog.

Detonate- The first thing that came to my mind was The Decoy Detonators which Harry used at Ministry of Magic as a distraction tool to break into Dolores Umbridge’s office. That was how I was introduced to this word. I learned loads and loads of words from Harry Potter books. The spells, charms and even the names of the characters were made up by J. K. Rowling herself and most of them have Latin roots. Each word was like magic and I had fun finding out what it meant. Take Dolores. Dole in Latin means grief, pain. This character enjoys torturing students with painful detentions and thus her name. I hope you know a tablet named Dolofar which is an analgesic.

I related those words to words from my science book because most of the science terms are Greek and Latin like aviforis, avis, homenum revelio, petrificus totalus. I was in a different world with special power where I saw words in a whole different way. It might seem to be very ordinary to most of you but I felt the opposite way.

Some of my favourites are Alohomora, Expelliarmus, Specialis Revelio, Riddikulus, Accio, Obliviate, Lumos, Fidelius. What is your’s?

You might be wondering is this article worth reading. sorry, I told you already that I was up to no good.
